Led Zeppelin & the Hippie Movement

Stairway to Heaven

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe,
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In the tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

Woe,
And it makes me wonder

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

Woe,
And it makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echode with laughter

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

And it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go because you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady can't you hear the wind blow and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

Hair

Hair is a movie about a group of younger in NY who gathered as a tribe to struggle for freedom and they rejected traditional social values, advocated peace and love, they favoured long hair and unconventional clothes, that’s the motive of the name HAIR.

The scenery in that time was not favourable to youngers. They were sent to battlefield in Vietnam and this situation made youngers to rise in opposition to the government besides their expectations of life were destroyed because they knew they were going to die in over there. The only reason they had it was living day by day, using drugs and making love.

Berger is one of the leaders of the group with Claude. However Berger tries hard to gather Claude into a group of hippies and to the new style of life. Berger with his friends just hang around on their own on streets living day by day without worrying, their only goal is happiness in mankind. Berger shows himself a true friend, doing everything possible to help his friends out. It does not matter the high price, he is supposed to be in their friends’ shoes, even dying for them in Vietnam. Berger believes that everything is possible, even without any money, or something regarded as valuable like cars, jewelry, etc..

He believes that the life is short, so he enjoys it while living on Earth.

Woodstock

Also Known As:Woodstock Music Festival; An Aquarian Exposition: Three Days of Peace and Music

Overview of the Woodstock Festival of 1969:

The Organizers of Woodstock

The organizers of the Woodstock Festival were four young men: John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Mike Lang. The oldest of the four was only 27 years old at the time of the Woodstock Festival.

Roberts, an heir to a pharmaceutical fortune, and his friend Rosenman were looking for a way to use Roberts' money to invest in an idea that would make them even more money. After placing an ad in The New York Times that stated: "Young men with unlimited capital looking for interesting, legitimate investment opportunities and business propositions," they met Kornfeld and Lang.

The Plan for the Woodstock Festival

Kornfeld and Lang's original proposal was to build a recording studio and a retreat for rock musicians up in Woodstock, New York (where Bob Dylan and other musicians already lived). The idea morphed into creating a two-day rock concert for 50,000 people with the hope that the concert would raise enough money to pay for the studio.

The four young men then got to work on organizing a large music festival. They found a location for the event up in an industrial park in nearby Wallkill, New York.

They printed tickets ($7 for one day, $13 for two days, and $18 for three days), which could be purchased in select stores or via mail order. The men also worked on organizing food, signing musicians, and hiring security.

Motivation - O'Grady

Motivation is the extent to which you make choices about (a) goals to pursue and (b) the effort you will devote to that pursuit.

As a whole class, students were supposed to brainstorm for a minute and discuss some of the most techniques used in language classrooms that we have observed recently and say whether a technique is intrinsically motivating.

Blogs – teachers ask students to keep a journal on the web so that they can relate their daily routine, practicing their writing skills.

Role plays – teachers create a scenery where students can pretend they are in a place where the target language is spoken.

It can be a restaurant, pub, students can talk only in English. This exercise is indicated for advanced ones.

Games – Cards, guessing game, etc.indicated for kids, teens. Adults are not into this kind of exercise.

Music – songs with lyrics, blanket spaces for students to listen to and complete. Every student enjoys it.

Movies – as every student wants to sound as a native-like, they enjoy this exercise. Students watch the movie with or without the subtitles paying close attention to the way the words are pronounced.

Teaching Grammar – Some teachers believe that grammar is so important that they focus only on it. It is sometimes boring but some students think that learning grammar is the effective way in learning English.

Drills – Teachers use this technique and it can be effective for beginners, but on the other hand, advanced ones hate it, it is regarded as much repetition, they feel like a parrot or a kind of answering machine.

Pair groups – I have seen many classes like that, students work together doing the exercises. It can be a informal conversation, dialogues, etc, using the grammar and vocabulary they have just learned.

It is important for teachers ask themselves whether something they are doing in the classroom, the exercises they are preparing, are contributing to their students’ intrinsic drives.

Teachers must be aware of the purpose of the techniques, if they are relevant for students; if they contribute to students autonomy or even if the technique encourages students in some way to develop effective strategies of learning and so on.

ENADE

Stds discussed the ENADE in order to better figure out the reason why stds fail the exam.
The possibilities to brush up on the kind of questions,
to understand what is expected from the stds. We could realise that they are seeking people
who can read the texts and be critical at the same time.
To better answer those questions, students should do an appropriate reading using their background
and some knowledge acquired in their entire life.
